World-Class Cello Professor from Juilliard Instructs Students Over HD Video

Richard Aaron, a Juilliard School cello professor based in Ann Arbor, faced a dilemma when offered the prestigious New York appointment: he couldn’t relocate or travel frequently enough to teach all his students in person, and his legacy videoconferencing system lacked the HD quality and reliability required for high-level music instruction.

Juilliard installed a LifeSize Passport in Aaron’s Michigan office and enabled HD-capable practice rooms at the school, allowing standards-based, True 720p30 video connections. The upgrade let him teach more than a dozen Juilliard students remotely with virtually the same effectiveness as in-person lessons, cutting travel, improving his work–life balance, and encouraging colleagues to adopt HD video instruction.
