A Lifesize Case Study

University utilizes video collaboration to expand students’ learning opportunities

The University of Alberta, a top-five Canadian university and top-100 global research institution, needed a reliable, scalable and flexible way to introduce video collaboration into classrooms so students could prepare for future careers — without creating a burden or backlog for IT. The Faculty of Education wanted a portable, easy-to-manage solution that wouldn’t require dedicated rooms, IPs or heavy resource management.

After demoing Lifesize’s cloud-based app alongside Lifesize HD systems, the university adopted a blended hardware-and-software approach. The deployment provided secure, cost-efficient, high-quality video collaboration across eight campuses and ~40,000 students, streamlining scheduling for IT and enabling real-time teaching, cross-campus and cross-university instructor collaboration, and more impactful lesson planning.
