The Academy of Montpellier Expands Educational Opportunities to Students with LifeSize Technology

The Rectorate of Montpellier (Academy of Montpellier) sought to bring high-quality education to geographically dispersed and disabled students across the Languedoc-Roussillon region but earlier Unified Communications attempts were too costly and constrained by ISDN connectivity. With improved IP networks, the academy needed an interoperable, flexible and cost-effective video solution to support collaboration, teacher training, language instruction and remote schooling.

The Rectorate deployed LifeSize Express 220 HD endpoints—standards-based, easy-to-use systems that deliver crystal-clear 1080p/720p video and work across different vendors’ equipment. Adoption was rapid; the program normalized classroom participation for remote students, including those with disabilities, and the academy estimates more than 6,000 hours saved in travel and a 3,000-ton reduction in carbon footprint.
