NZi3 ICT Innovation Institute at the University of Canterbury is a purpose-built NZ$10M research hub that brings together 50 postgraduates and 30 researchers to drive industry-linked ICT innovation. To fulfil its mandate of connecting industry, other universities and government labs globally, the open-concept centre needed a flexible, easy-to-use, future-proof video conferencing solution that would integrate with its collaborative design.

NZi3 deployed LifeSize Room 200 and Express systems in every meeting space, plus a nine-screen video feature wall and multiple cameras to support multi-party presentations and varied teaching/research scenarios. The HD solution proved intuitive and powerful—over 600 users and at least four conferences per week in month one—delivering estimated travel savings of NZ$50–60K and establishing one of Australasia’s most sophisticated video conferencing centres while significantly expanding remote collaboration.
