Niigata Seiryo and 12 Other Niigata Universities Use Videoconferencing System to Conduct Partnership Project

Niigata Seiryo University, a private institution in Niigata Prefecture that specializes in nursing and welfare, led a regional partnership of nearby colleges to address declining local enrollment and workforce shortfalls. Partners were dispersed across a long, mountainous prefecture—some more than 160 km apart—making in-person meetings time-consuming, costly and hard to coordinate given administrators’ existing duties and limited network bandwidth at some sites.

To solve this, nine campuses were connected via a LifeSize Room HD videoconferencing system with a multipoint bridge at Niigata Seiryo, delivering high-quality audio/video even over low-bandwidth links. The rollout cut travel costs (about $330 USD per meeting), enabled regular intercollegiate collaboration, helped expand the consortium (from 10 to 13 colleges), and supported joint events, disaster/health coordination and plans for shared distance-learning and training activities.
