LION Foundation and LifeSize Collaborate to Provide Worldwide Distance Learning to Medical Professionals

The LION Foundation (Live International Otolaryngology Network) is a non-profit founded in 2006 to promote continuing medical and surgical education for otolaryngologists. Faced with the need to deliver live surgery, lectures and interactive training to professionals worldwide—often across limited-bandwidth connections—LION needed a reliable, high-quality videoconferencing solution that would expand access while reducing travel costs and environmental impact.

LION partnered with LifeSize to deploy high-definition, low-bandwidth videoconferencing linking “faculty” operating sites with remote conference or computer “distant” sites. The result is a global interactive network for live surgeries, panels and conferences that provides real-time access to international experts, lowers travel expenses, reduces CO2 emissions, and supports multiple annual scientific and training events.
