Improving Patient Care: How Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust Utilises HD Video Conferencing to Provide More Efficient Treatment

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, a 3,300‑staff provider of community, mental health and learning‑disability services across more than 110 sites in southeast London, faced frequent lengthy staff journeys between dispersed locations that ate into clinical time. The Trust needed a secure, easy‑to‑use alternative to face‑to‑face meetings that would streamline referrals, speed care decisions and be acceptable to both staff and patients.

After staff and service‑user consultations and a literature review, Oxleas deployed two LifeSize Express 220 HD video endpoints for meetings, bed‑management, training and selected patient assessments. The systems cut travel, shortened meetings (often from two hours to 30 minutes), are used about 80 hours a month, saved an estimated £37.62 per meeting per person and improved communication, productivity and quality of care; the Trust is rolling the solution out to 14 more sites and expects further clinical and carbon‑reduction benefits.
