Houston TranStar, the Houston-area agency that combines transportation and emergency management (TxDOT, Harris County, the City of Houston and METRO) to serve over 4 million residents across more than 800 directional miles, needed a way to make secure, real-time, face-to-face decisions without hours of travel. Relying on phones and email left gaps during critical incidents, so the agency required lifelike HD video, strong encryption, interoperability with partner agencies, and dependable performance at just 1 Mbps.

Houston TranStar deployed LifeSize Express 220, Room 220 and Desktop endpoints plus LifeSize Transit for secure firewall/NAT traversal, delivering interoperable HD video conferencing at low bandwidth. The solution cut travel, enabled immediate collaborative decision-making for weather, accidents and other emergencies, received strong user buy-in, and is being expanded for outreach and training—helping the agency improve public safety and mobility.
