Enhancing Distance Learning with Video at Coastal Bend College

Coastal Bend College is a community college serving 13 rural Texas counties across four campuses, focused on expanding access to higher education for students who cannot easily travel. The college needed a robust, easy-to-use video solution that would convince trustees and faculty it could reliably support and enhance curricula, accommodate diverse teaching styles, and be intuitive for both students and staff.

After evaluating Lifesize, CBC deployed 19 systems and now runs 130,000+ minutes of video instruction per month (about 270 calls monthly), with recording and on-demand sharing widely used. The solution improved scheduling, cut travel costs, enabled virtual office hours, onboarding and meetings, and transformed distance learning adoption across campuses—so much so that staff now even use “Lifesize-ing” as a verb.
