Efficient Collaboration between Specialists via Video Conferencing Enables a 360° Diagnosis

Johanniter-Krankenhaus im Fläming Treuenbrietzen GmbH is a 380‑bed regional hospital in South Brandenburg, Germany, with specialty centers for pneumology, thoracic surgery, oncology and other disciplines and certifications as a lung cancer and thoracic surgery center. As care became more specialized, weekly interdisciplinary tumor conferences needed input from many external specialists who previously had to travel in—an inefficient, time-consuming and costly process that also limited collaboration with other regional hospitals.

The hospital deployed cloud-based Lifesize video conferencing (Lifesize Icon 800, three 65" HD screens) and integrated its legacy Polycom system to enable WebRTC, app and standards-based interoperability with other vendors, plus live OR broadcasting into meetings. External experts now join easily from laptops or mobile devices, accelerating diagnosis-to-treatment decisions, simplifying case conferences and second opinions, and providing a scalable platform the hospital can expand across departments.
