Community College Creates Satellite Campus Using HD Video

Hiroshima Bunka College, a community college in Hiroshima, Japan with five campuses, needed to create a satellite campus to give rural students a full university experience without long commutes. Key requirements were a distance-learning system that felt authentic—clear blackboard visuals, intelligible audio—and would not interfere with campus networks.

Hitachi High‑Technologies deployed LifeSize HD video systems at the main and satellite sites, delivering crisp, real‑time video and audio that students and faculty described as lifelike and TV‑quality. The first remote lectures ran smoothly with no lag, clear board text and sound, reduced travel time and costs for students, and the college is expanding HD video across more campuses.
