Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Customer Case Study

The RSPCA, the world’s oldest animal welfare charity, rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes hundreds of thousands of animals each year in England and Wales and relies on a 500,000-strong donor base and over 1,600 staff. Facing an outdated, complex CMS and slow development cycles, the organisation needed a more dynamic, user-focused online presence and better collaboration tools for employees and branch networks to increase engagement and revenue.

In 2010 the RSPCA adopted Liferay to rebuild its public site, launch scalable microsites and roll out a branch extranet and supporter portal, adding features iteratively and implementing responsive design. The platform cut development time from months to days, drove mobile visits to about 50% of traffic, improved internal collaboration and campaign responsiveness, and increased exposure, engagement and donation potential.
