Public transport company overhauls site to support growing customer base

Transports publics fribourgeois (TPF) is the main public transport operator in the Swiss canton of Fribourg, running buses, regional trains and a funicular for about 29 million passengers and 800 employees. Faced with a ten-year-old, inflexible website that limited online services, multilingual needs and departmental autonomy, TPF launched a tender to modernize its web presence and reduce IT overhead.

Liferay was chosen for its flexibility and stability, delivering a responsive, multilingual platform with native content indexing and self-service editing so business units can update pages without IT support. After training, teams quickly adopted the system; Liferay also updates social channels and station displays and will add real-time information and online travel-card management—strengthening passenger communication, improving service and lowering operating costs.
