A Liferay Case Study
Volkswagen Group France, the French subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, needed to modernize its aging intranet and extranet to serve some 20,000 employees and partners. The challenge was to create a modern, Web 2.0–style interface that could simplify creation of multiple branded sites, support high user volumes, enforce role-based access to content and documentation, and preserve and integrate existing business applications.
The company deployed Liferay to build a single portal with WCM, documents & media, SSO and deep application integration. The result: one platform supporting five brand sites and aggregating 100+ internal and external applications (about 30 built on Liferay), profile-based document sharing and targeted messaging, and a range of services (booking, vehicle rental, etc.), improving service quality while showcasing the brand.
