Global Advanced Materials Supplier Uses Intranet Content to Build Community

Materion, a global advanced materials supplier with about 2,600 employees, faced poor internal communication and low intranet adoption: teams relied heavily on email, employees struggled to find policies, standards, and critical content, and the existing Liferay solution offered a poor user experience. Leadership identified the need to modernize the employee portal to better connect a distributed workforce and surface key information.

They upgraded to a redesigned Liferay DXP intranet called Materion Matters—revamping navigation, the policies page, homepage, branding, and introducing multimedia content and scheduled publishing. Within four months engagement rose markedly (20% increase in sessions, 40% increase in page views, 24% reduction in bounce rate) and year‑over‑year metrics continued to improve (18% more sessions, 47% more page views), while employees gained easy access to policies and the intranet became a hub for culture and conversation.
