Case Study: My Navy Portal achieves 40,000-user scalability and FedRAMP certification with Liferay

A Liferay Case Study

Preview of the My Navy Portal Case Study

Exceptional Performance Boosts User Satisfaction

My Navy Portal, run by the U.S. Navy’s Sea Warrior Program Office, needed to replace a patchwork of legacy portals with a single, modern intranet that could serve the entire Navy (up to 870,000 potential users). The existing multi-system architecture failed on performance and user experience and had to meet strict Navy/Marine Corps intranet and FedRAMP security requirements.

Team Katmai rewrote and re-architected the site on the Liferay platform and deployed it in AWS GovCloud, achieving FedRAMP certification. The rebuilt portal delivers role-based personalized homepages, lets administrators manage content independently, sustained spikes of 40,000 simultaneous sign‑ons within ten minutes (with plans to scale higher), boosted user satisfaction, and earned a DoD CIO award.
