The Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC) is France’s public body for cinema and moving image industries, overseeing funding, preservation and industry data for a sector that represents about 1% of French GDP and 340,000 jobs. In 2008 the CNC faced an ageing intranet and public website that couldn’t support a virtual office for staff, make more than 60 types of funding visible, or manage a document base of thousands of studies, reports and articles; search, usability and the site’s role as a public showcase were all in need of urgent improvement.

The CNC selected Liferay as its CMS (with Workey for paperless forms and Alfresco for document management) to deliver a flexible, feature-rich platform that integrates business applications, improves categorisation and search, and simplifies content management. The new site sped access to funding forms and streamlined processing through third‑party integrations; it now averages about 100,000 visitors a month (1M+ a year). CNC plans further upgrades—responsive design via Liferay 6.2 and Liferay Sync for offline sharing—to extend mobile access and richer content targeting.
