A Liferay Case Study
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) launched ABC Education to give students, teachers and parents easy online access to curriculum-aligned learning resources. The Digital Education team faced a tight delivery timetable, multiple target audiences (students aged 5–16, teachers and parents) and a content-heavy site dominated by video and audio that needed to be searchable, engaging and aligned to the Australian Curriculum.
ABC chose the lightweight, open‑standards Liferay platform for its flexibility and out‑of‑the‑box features, enabling a rapid rollout (signed in June and live in just over five months with 300 pieces of content at launch). Today the site hosts 4,000+ videos, games and resources mapped to the curriculum, attracts around 18,000 visitors each school day, supports modern teaching tools and partnerships with national cultural institutions, and has been widely praised by teachers for accessibility and ease of use.
