1/2 million Madrid students receive personalized web experience

EducaMadrid is the digital platform for Madrid’s public school system, serving over 500,000 students across 1,600 schools and sponsored by the Consejería de Educación de la Comunidad Autonoma de Madrid. The organization needed a scalable, low‑cost solution to foster communication and collaboration across classrooms, grades, and schools while supporting flexible, role‑based layouts and broad access to community resources without per‑user licensing fees.

Germinus implemented Liferay Portal for its open standards and flexibility, building an extranet and a personalized intranet where teachers see a classroom “desktop” and students receive age‑appropriate UIs that evolve with grade level. The project added a web builder, virtual communities (chat, classroom email), a CMS, custom tools and integrations with MvnForum and legacy Struts apps—saving the district hundreds of thousands of dollars while delivering scalable, easily extensible collaboration services.
