Case Study: Boston Medical Center achieves complete outside-imaging access and improved patient care with lifeIMAGE

A lifeIMAGE Case Study

Ensuring complete imaging histories are available at all points of care

Boston Medical Center, a 496‑bed safety‑net hospital and the busiest trauma and emergency provider in New England, needed faster, more reliable access to imaging performed outside its network to avoid delays, repeat procedures, and lost reimbursement. To solve this, BMC turned to the lifeIMAGE platform to streamline how clinicians access and internalize outside exams.

lifeIMAGE enabled instant uploading and enterprise‑wide viewing of patient CDs, electronic receipt of referring‑facility exams, and import into PACS to support secondary reads. The deployment led to 13,684 exams uploaded across BMC in 2014, earlier availability of images for trauma and critical care teams, broad adoption across image‑intensive specialties, improved clinical efficiency and patient safety, and new revenue from reimbursed overreads facilitated by lifeIMAGE.
