A Liazon Case Study

Preview of the Ambulance Service Provider Case Study

Two Years on an Exchange Brings Continued Cost Savings and More Employee Choice

Ambulance Service Provider, a New Jersey-based ambulance company with 70 employees including EMTs, nurses, drivers, and dispatchers, needed a long-term way to offer more benefits choice, move enrollment online, and control rising medical insurance costs. With Liazon’s private exchange, the company aimed to better fit the diverse needs of its workforce while managing rising healthcare expenses.

Liazon implemented a private benefits exchange that expanded the company’s options from one medical HMO to 8 medical plans plus 8 ancillary benefits. Employees responded by choosing from multiple medical plans and enrolling more heavily in benefits like vision, life, LTD, STD, and pet insurance. The company’s medical premium cost was 7% lower in 2014 than expected without the exchange, and in 2015 it remained 3% below the anticipated pre-exchange cost while medical premiums rose only 5% year over year on the exchange.
