Case Study: LACChain builds the world’s largest permissioned public blockchain with Hyperledger Besu from LF Decentralized Trust

A LF Decentralized Trust Case Study

Preview of the LACChain Case Study

LACChain uses Hyperledger Besu to create the world’s largest permissioned public blockchain

LACChain, a global alliance sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank, sought to overcome the limitations of existing blockchain infrastructures for its regional initiative. They needed a solution that was both public to foster inclusion and permissioned to ensure regulatory compliance, without the high costs and scalability issues of other models. They engaged with the vendor LF Decentralized Trust (Hyperledger) and leveraged its product, Hyperledger Besu, to build this new type of network.

Using Hyperledger Besu, LF Decentralized Trust provided the foundation for a scalable, permissioned public blockchain. The solution included a novel governance model with two signature levels for accountability and a unique gas distribution protocol to ensure economic sustainability without transaction fees. The results were significant, with the network growing to over 191 nodes, more than 60 active projects, and impact on inclusion in 15 countries, creating the world's largest ecosystem of its kind.
