Case Study: British Columbia cuts red tape with LF Decentralized Trust’s Hyperledger Indy

A LF Decentralized Trust Case Study

Preview of the British Columbia Case Study

BC aims to cut government red tape with Hyperledger Indy

The customer is the government of British Columbia, facing the challenge of excessive regulatory red tape that cost businesses billions annually and made processes like verifying a company's legal status slow and cumbersome. To address this, they initiated the Verifiable Organizations Network (VON) and worked with the vendor LF Decentralized Trust, utilizing the Hyperledger Indy framework to build a system for trusted digital credentials.

The solution involved developing and contributing to an open-source software stack based on Hyperledger Indy, leading to the creation of OrgBook BC. This online directory provides verifiable data for over half a million companies with 1.4 million credentials, reducing due diligence from hours to seconds. LF Decentralized Trust's technology enabled this scalable system, and their collaborative work extended Hyperledger Indy's capabilities, creating a reusable model for other governments to cut administrative burdens.
