Unum Group saves nearly $1M annually with Lexmark's MFP workflows

Unum Group, a major insurance provider, faced significant challenges with high paper consumption, rising document storage costs, and lengthy processing times for millions of documents and faxes annually. To address these inefficiencies, they partnered with vendor Lexmark to leverage their existing installation of Lexmark multifunction products (MFPs) and the embedded solutions framework (eSF) to develop custom workflow applications.

The solution implemented by Lexmark involved providing their Software Development Kit (SDK), which allowed Unum's IT staff to create custom Java applications for their MFPs. This enabled the automation of fax routing and claims processing, eliminating analog phone lines and manual handling. As a result, Unum achieved nearly $1 million in annual cost savings, dramatically improved document quality and processing speed, and reduced printing volume. Lexmark's support and partnership were also highlighted as key to the project's success.
