University of Regina cuts printers from 2,000 to 445 with Lexmark

The University of Regina, a comprehensive Canadian institution, set a goal to become a leader in environmental responsibility. Its challenge was to reassess a large and uncoordinated output environment of over 1,200 printers and copiers, reduce their number, and improve performance and efficiency. To achieve this, the university partnered with vendor Lexmark to implement Managed Print Services (MPS).

Lexmark worked with a partner to retire existing devices and replace them with optimized Lexmark multifunction printers. The solution also included Lexmark's Asset Lifecycle Services and MarkVision Professional for proactive management. The results were significant: the number of devices was reduced from nearly 2,000 to 445, and five-year output and supplies costs were cut from $4.5 million to $1.3 million. This also reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 138,719 kilograms and freed faculty and staff from administrative tasks.
