The United States Coast Guard faced heavy paperwork across military pay, retirement, annuitant services, and travel claims, which made it difficult to index, find, and manage records for its 40,000+ active-duty personnel and many retirees. After a previous content management system failed, the USCG turned to Lexmark and its Perceptive Content solution to replace manual filing and improve service.
Lexmark implemented Perceptive Content with PeopleSoft integration, giving clerks instant desktop access to complete personnel files and enabling automated indexing and routing of documents. The result was a dramatic reduction in response time from days to minutes, a smaller backlog and on-hold queue, and greater productivity, while also freeing up 800 square feet of office space.
