St. Luke’s Hospital - Customer Case Study

St. Luke’s Hospital, a 493-bed medical center in Chesterfield, Missouri, needed to move from handwritten medication orders and paper prescription pads to a more secure electronic process while staying compatible with its Cerner PowerChart EMR. The hospital already used Lexmark printers, and turned to Lexmark’s Tamper Resistant Prescription Printing solution to support secure prescription printing at nursing stations.

Lexmark implemented a solution that lets physicians enter prescriptions in Cerner and print them immediately on plain paper with watermarks and other security features. This reduced risk, lowered costs compared with tamper-proof paper, improved patient care, and eliminated the threat of stolen prescription pads; it also created a searchable record and removed handwriting-related errors from the process.
