St. Luke’s Hospital Chesterfield improves prescription security with Lexmark across 150 printers

St. Luke’s Hospital Chesterfield, a major not-for-profit medical center, faced the challenge of moving from a paper-based system for physician pharmacy orders to a secure electronic process. Their goal was to integrate with their new Cerner EMR system to eliminate handwritten prescriptions and the associated risks of error and theft. The hospital turned to vendor Lexmark for a solution.

Lexmark implemented its Tamper Resistant Prescription Printing solution, which allowed physicians to enter orders directly into the Cerner system and print secure prescriptions featuring watermarks on plain paper at nursing stations. This solution from Lexmark improved patient care by ensuring accuracy, significantly reduced the risk of prescription fraud, and proved more affordable than using special tamper-proof paper. The hospital also reported positive staff feedback and a strengthened partnership with Lexmark.
