RS Components, a global distributor of electronics, automation and control components, faced a major accounts payable challenge: its UK finance team was processing 50,000 supplier invoices a month from 4,000 vendors, much of it manually in SAP. The company wanted to cut costs, reduce manual handling, and build a more value-added AP team using automation; the solution used was ReadSoft Invoices, from Lexmark.

Lexmark, working with Cogent Consulting, implemented an automated invoice processing solution integrated with RS Components’ SAP ERP system, adding workflow, electronic archiving, and improved invoice capture fields. The results were significant: invoice throughput rose from 42,000 to 55,000 per month, AP headcount dropped from 20 to 10, 90% of invoices were automated, and employment costs were reduced by 36% per year.
