Suburban Propane, a nationwide energy distributor operating 300 locations with more than 650 Lexmark laser printers, was struggling with costly printer failures caused by employees buying off-brand toner cartridges. Lexmark’s Proactive Consumables Management and fleet tools were introduced to address the issue.

Lexmark implemented a system that automatically alerts when toner reaches 10% remaining, then orders and ships genuine cartridges directly to the right device and location. Lexmark also provided a fleet management portal for real-time visibility into printer usage. In the first six months, Suburban Propane saved $94,000, eliminated damage from leaking third-party cartridges, and gained better control over printer lifecycle and fleet management.
