A Lexmark Case Study
The Major Midwest Healthcare Organization, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare systems in the U.S., needed a more reliable and cost-effective way to keep up-to-date patient reports available during IT outages. Its existing process involved printing thousands of pages daily across more than 70 printers, then shredding them within 24 hours for HIPAA compliance, creating high paper, toner, and administration costs. Lexmark was selected to help address this challenge, using Lexmark Downtime Reports and Lexmark multifunction products.
Lexmark implemented a secure downtime solution that streams updated reports to encrypted hard drives on Lexmark MFPs, enabling authenticated staff to print only when needed during an outage. The result was a dramatic reduction in waste and operating costs: daily standby printing was replaced with four-hour updates, the printer fleet was cut to several dozen devices, and paper, toner, and electricity use dropped significantly. Lexmark also helped the organization become better prepared for downtime while maintaining instant access to critical information.
