Lexmark Develops Custom Solution For North Carolina Department Of Transportation

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) needed a reliable way to print IRP registrations and cab cards with required PDF417 barcodes, but its existing printer setup could not produce the barcode correctly using PRESCRIBE commands. To meet federal PRISM requirements and support its high-volume license plate agencies, NCDOT selected Lexmark to deliver a compatible printing solution.

Lexmark provided 225 T-series monochrome laser printers with a PRESCRIBE emulation module and custom-engineered full PDF417 barcode support. The solution was deployed in just two months, integrated without disrupting existing infrastructure, and has run reliably in production. It also reduced power use and maintenance needs, while high-yield toner cartridges cut supplies ordering and cartridge recycling by 80 percent.
