Gwinnett Medical Center, a Georgia healthcare network serving Gwinnett County and surrounding areas, needed to modernize pharmacy order processing and simplify access to patient reports during network outages. It turned to Lexmark, using Lexmark multifunction products, laser printers, and the Lexmark Downtime Reports solution to replace a manual, delay-prone workflow and an expensive twice-daily backup printing process.
Lexmark implemented 50 networked devices and custom workflow scripts to scan, prioritize, and route physician orders directly into the patient record, while also enabling on-demand access to current downtime reports. The results included retiring the pneumatic tube system, cutting pharmacy labor intensity nearly in half, removing 40 standalone devices, and saving more than $200,000 on paper alone by eliminating 3.6 million printed pages per year.
