A Lexmark Case Study
The Department of Human Services, a state agency with 133 offices, 5,400 employees, and a $3 billion annual budget, was managing 2,500 aging printers, copiers, scanners, and faxes from 12 manufacturers. With limited networking, weak document security, and inefficient employee-to-device ratios, the agency needed to reduce costs, improve productivity, and modernize secure workflows. It turned to Lexmark technology and solutions, including Lexmark multifunction products and Print Release.
Lexmark helped the Department of Human Services consolidate its fleet, deploy MFPs in phases, and build secure custom applications for Medicaid verification, benefits re-application, protective services, vocational rehabilitation, travel expenses, and vendor invoicing. The results included nearly $8 million in savings, a reduced fleet from 2,500 to 1,000 devices, a better 5-to-1 employee-to-device ratio, 17% lower paper use, and 19% lower electrical consumption. Lexmark Print Release also saved $239,000 annually and improved document security and visibility across the agency.
