Progressive Texas Retirement System Adds Online Services While Fortifying Security

The Texas County & District Retirement System (TCDRS), a $37 billion public retirement system serving more than 330,000 Texas county and district employees, wanted to expand online self-service and automate transactions while maintaining strict security for members’ account and personal information. Customers expected a digital experience similar to other financial institutions, and TCDRS needed a secure way to let retirees apply for benefits and manage accounts online without increasing fraud risk.

TCDRS partnered with LexisNexis Risk Solutions, deploying ThreatMetrix for digital identity and device intelligence, adding phone authentication for its call center and personalized security questions plus DOB and phone-identity validation. The initiative moved most withdrawal requests and retirement applications online, sped processing, improved member guidance, enabled secure phone-based support, and advanced TCDRS’s goals for automation and a paperless future.
