Making the Case With (and for) LexisNexis® Accurint® for Law Enforcement

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, which serves more than 120,000 residents on the western shore of Lake Michigan, faced a time-critical investigation after an 18-year-old was the victim of an attempted sexual assault in 2008. The suspect fled the scene, was believed to live outside the department’s jurisdiction, and investigators had only partial identifying information—conditions that could have made a traditional investigation take several days.

Lieutenant James Risseeuw used LexisNexis Accurint for Law Enforcement to input the partial data and, within seconds, located the suspect’s home, his ex-wife and her address, a cell phone number, and relevant legal history. Working with the U.S. Marshals and a court order for up-to-the-minute phone data, the team traced the suspect’s movements and took him into custody in under 24 hours—shortening a process that normally would take days and preventing possible further harm.
