LexisNexis® Motivation Index Produces Substantial Lift in HealthSmart’s Care Plan Engagement

HealthSmart, the nation’s largest independent administrator of self-funded employer health plans, needed better ways to prioritize outreach and boost member engagement as part of its population health management efforts. While existing analytics identified high-risk members, HealthSmart faced the challenge of reaching those who were actually willing to engage in care plans and interventions.

To address this, HealthSmart tested LexisNexis® Population Health Monitor’s Motivation Index, which combines claims, pharmacy and medical data to flag members both at high risk and likely to engage. In a July–September 2015 trial of 104 targeted members, nurse outreach produced a 26.7% engagement rate versus an 8.4% baseline—an over 200% improvement in care manager productivity in two months.
