How Accurint® TraX™ Aided the Newport News Police Department in an Exigent Situation

LexisNexis Risk Solutions partnered with the Newport News Police Department during a high‑stakes non‑family abduction in February 2021, when a three‑month‑old (“Baby J”) was taken by a babysitter who communicated via a fictitious, deactivated social media profile. Investigators faced time pressure and major obstacles: the suspect used a fake identity, left no phone or email contact, and was traveling in a vehicle, making rapid location and identification extremely challenging.

Using legal preservation and exigent record requests together with the Accurint® suite—most notably Accurint® TraX™ for call‑detail visualization and LIVE ping monitoring—investigators correlated identity, CDRs, mobile pings and surveillance to pinpoint the suspect’s residence. Officers recovered the child alive within roughly eight hours and 23 minutes; the evidence developed with Accurint TraX was courtroom‑ready, leading to a guilty verdict and a five‑year sentence with supervised probation.
