Florida Department of Law Enforcement Solves Child Abduction Case with LexisNexis® Advanced Investigative Solution

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), which investigates major drugs, violent crime, public integrity and economic crime, faced a time-critical child abduction when a newborn was taken from a hospital maternity ward. Investigators had only a vehicle description and three partial license plate characters, issued a BOLO, and needed to locate the suspect quickly to recover the infant.

Using dFACTS, FDLE’s implementation of the LexisNexis® Advanced Investigative Solution, an analyst ran a Wild Card license-plate search that produced five vehicle matches and—with an additional data source to confirm the suspect’s description—identified the likely suspect in under 10 minutes. The information was relayed to patrol units, a traffic stop in a neighboring city led to the safe recovery of the baby, and the entire incident was resolved in about one hour and 15 minutes.
