A LexisNexis Risk Solutions Case Study
Butler Health System, a seven-county Pennsylvania health network with a 296-bed hospital and dozens of outpatient and physician locations, faced a patient-matching crisis after rapid growth and multiple practice acquisitions. With 1.3 million records spread across six EMR systems and rampant duplicates, BHS risked patient safety, impaired population-health analytics, and a costly, time-consuming migration to a new hospital information system.
BHS implemented Occam’s enterprise Master Patient Index (eMPI) layered with LexisNexis Health Care’s LexID to automate identity resolution and stewardship. The solution consolidated 1.3 million disparate records into roughly 740,000 unique patients, avoided about 105,000 manual research tasks, and achieved ~97% matching accuracy—enabling safer care, smoother IT consolidation, better population-health insights, and scalable onboarding for future acquisitions.
