A Lexipol Case Study
The Vigo County Sheriff's Office, which serves a population of nearly 108,000 with 40 sworn officers and a 270‑inmate jail, faced a three‑fold policy problem: an outdated, largely generic policy manual, inconsistent training and practices across the agency, and insufficient time and resources to carry out a full policy overhaul. To address these gaps the Vigo County Sheriff's Office turned to Lexipol for Indiana‑specific policy content and implementation support.
Lexipol provided its Indiana Law Enforcement and Corrections/Custody Policy Manuals, its online Knowledge Management System (KMS), and Implementation Services, including an on‑site rollout and training led by a Lexipol professional. Working with Lexipol, the agency customized and deployed comprehensive policies (160 Indiana‑specific policies), integrated the manual into training and a new Field Training Officer program, and within six months achieved consistent, agency‑wide practices — even using the new policies to manage a high‑profile internal misconduct case. Vigo County Sheriff’s Office leaders credit Lexipol’s Implementation Services with making the implementation possible.
