SUNY-Alfred Police Department Reducing Liability Through Efficient Policy Management

The Alfred State University Police Department, part of the SUNY system with 11 sworn officers protecting two campuses and about 3,600 students, struggled with manual, binder-based policies and an inefficient paper check-off system that made it hard to keep up with legislative and case-law changes. To address the risk of officers using outdated procedures, the department adopted Lexipol in 2016 and sought a policy management solution that would modernize updates and acknowledgments.

Lexipol implemented its New York Law Enforcement Policies and Training subscription along with its Knowledge Management System (KMS), Supplemental Publication Service and Professional Services support to accelerate a summer rollout and meet a January 1 accreditation deadline. The Lexipol platform centralized policies, enabled electronic acknowledgments, delivered continuous legal updates and Daily Training Bulletins, and provided mobile access—resulting in a more efficient, accurate policy-management process, stronger legal footing and higher officer engagement with policies.
