Salt Lake City Police Department Achieving Policy Access and Accountability

The Salt Lake City Police Department, a force of about 500 sworn officers serving more than 192,000 people, faced an outdated and incomplete policy manual with gaps in legal compliance, contradictory guidance, and no reliable system to distribute or track officer acknowledgement. To address these risks the department became a Lexipol customer (May 2017) and selected Lexipol’s Utah Law Enforcement Policies and Training solution to modernize and standardize its policies.

Lexipol delivered vetted policy content and an integrated policy system, supported by Implementation Services to map old content to the new manual and a Supplemental Publication Service to separate sensitive procedures from public policy. Using Lexipol’s mobile app, tracking/reporting tools and Daily Training Bulletins, the department achieved clearer, more comprehensive policies, improved officer access and understanding, and measurable increases in policy acknowledgement and compliance through periodic audits.
