A Lexipol Case Study
The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD), which serves about 50,000 residents in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, struggled for years to achieve VLEPSC accreditation amid leadership turnover and fragmented policy management. Policies were once paper-based or stored in a hard-to-navigate online system that lacked up‑to‑date content and reliable tracking of officer acknowledgments. HPD began using Lexipol’s law enforcement policy solution in 2016 to address these gaps.
Lexipol implemented its Virginia Law Enforcement Policies and Training subscription, including 160 Virginia‑specific policies and an Accreditation Workbench that maps content to VLEPSC standards. Lexipol’s content covered roughly 75–80% of the commission’s requirements, enabled electronic review and acknowledgments, streamlined proof management and reporting, and delivered timely law-change updates. As a result, with Lexipol’s support HPD completed its VLEPSC assessment and was awarded accreditation in September 2020, while improving policy currency, officer accountability, and administrative efficiency.
