Grants Pass Department of Public Safety Cost-Effective Risk Reduction

The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, a combined police and fire agency with 47 officers and 42 firefighters serving about 36,500 people, struggled to maintain CALEA accreditation and keep policies current with changing legislation and case law. The dual-role structure and limited legal review capacity made policy maintenance labor-intensive and risky, so Grants Pass turned to Lexipol, initially subscribing to the Lexipol Oregon Law Enforcement Policies and Training service to address those gaps.

Lexipol implemented its Oregon Law Enforcement and Oregon Fire Policies and Training services along with Implementation Services (working with specialist Bill McAuliffe) and the Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins (30 DTBs/month), app access, and reporting tools. As a result, Lexipol now monitors and issues policy updates for case law and new legislation, enables immediate push-outs, improves monthly training compliance tracking, and has reduced the department’s personnel time and costs on policy management—outcomes Grants Pass says clearly outweigh their prior in-house approach.
