Castle Shannon Police Department Realizing A Long-Term Policy Goal

Castle Shannon Police Department (CSPD), a 14-officer agency serving about 8,300 residents in the Pittsburgh metro area, faced a long-standing challenge: its policy manual was an outdated 4-inch binder with legacy content and no reliable way to keep policies current. Chief Ken Truver, who prioritized modernizing policy and training, turned to Lexipol and its Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Policies and Training solution (including Implementation Services and Daily Training Bulletins) to address the workload and ensure policies reflected current case law and best practices.

Lexipol implemented the solution using its Implementation Services team to cross-reference legacy general orders, adopt updated policies, and deploy the Knowledge Management System and mobile app so officers can access the manual and Daily Training Bulletins in cars and on phones. With Lexipol’s help (and project management by Pat Kane), the full manual implementation was completed in half the estimated time, improved continuous training and legal compliance, increased chief-level efficiency, and reduced liability risk while helping the department steward taxpayer dollars.
