St. David's North Austin Medical Center - Customer Case Study

St. David's North Austin Medical Center, a 210‑bed hospital serving Austin and surrounding communities, needed to raise physical security while keeping costs down. The legacy access-control setup limited expansion (adding 16 doors would have required new control panels and about $20,000), forced officers to leave CCTV stations to access a single control PC, and used two separate databases for ID badging. To solve these challenges the hospital engaged LenelS2 and selected the S2 NetBox network‑based access control solution.

LenelS2 deployed S2 NetBox appliances and remote network nodes on the existing IP network, migrating 24 doors from the legacy system, adding the planned 16 doors, and enabling easy incremental expansion. The web‑based S2 NetBox consolidated badging into a single database, allowed staff to monitor and manage access from any networked workstation, reused existing field equipment, and enabled remote diagnostics — avoiding the projected $20,000 expense and reducing downtime. As a result, LenelS2 helped improve staff productivity and response times, simplified door additions, and lowered ongoing installation and maintenance costs.
