Access Control Goes Mobile at Brooklyn Navy Yard Custom-built Card Reader Solution Provides Access Control for Bus Service

Brooklyn Navy Yard needed a way to secure and manage its free shuttle service so only authorized tenants, contractors and registered visitors could access the property. The Yard already used a LenelS2 NetBox access control system at its entrances and engaged LenelS2 to extend that capability onto its buses to meet the challenge of limited public transit and parking.

LenelS2, working with systems integrator Advanced Electronic Solutions, deployed custom triangular enclosures on six buses (two weekday routes) containing a barcode reader, HID iClass reader for cards and mobile credentials, and a LenelS2 MicroNode Plus that links to NetBox via a cellular router; the solution also integrates the visitor management system. The LenelS2 implementation improved convenience and security, lets the Yard capture ridership data and run route reports, and provides a scalable platform to support future growth to 20,000+ employees.
