Yancoal Improves Operational Efficiency with SAP S/4HANA on RISE System Conversion

Yancoal, Australia's largest pure-play coal producer, aimed to improve operational efficiency but faced the challenge of converting its SAP ECC6 system to SAP S/4HANA on RISE. The challenges included a complex solution architecture, an increased need for end-user testing and training, and a demanding five-month timeframe, all while coordinating with external dependencies. The vendor, Lemongrass, was engaged as part of a consortium to execute this technical system conversion.

Lemongrass implemented the conversion using a phased "Lift & Shift" approach with DMO (Database Migration Option) for system move. The process involved four key phases—Prepare, Build, Test, and Go-live—which included trial migrations and a detailed Runbook to ensure a smooth transition and data validation. Following the successful conversion and go-live, Lemongrass provided hypercare support. As a result, Yancoal now operates on a modern SAP architecture with a simplified support model, enabling it to leverage the latest SAP offerings to improve operational efficiency and drive digital transformation.
