Case Study: Pick n Pay Group cuts cloud costs and modernizes SAP migration with Lemongrass

A Lemongrass Case Study

Preview of the Pick n Pay Group Case Study

How retailer Pick n Pay mastered its migration to the cloud

Pick n Pay Group, a major South African retailer, faced the immense challenge of migrating its entire IT infrastructure off of aging, on-premise hardware. With a contract nearing its end, the company had to decide between a costly seven-year extension or a migration to the cloud, a complex undertaking made even more daunting as it would be the largest such migration on the African continent. The retailer enlisted the services of vendor Lemongrass to manage this migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Lemongrass successfully executed the migration of approximately 500 systems, including complex SAP environments that required specialized export-import exercises. The vendor also became Pick n Pay's cloud operator post-migration. The project was a significant success, enabling the retailer to drastically reduce its infrastructure, operating, and support costs by 40%. Furthermore, the move to AWS provided crucial flexibility, allowing the company to easily scale its systems up or down as needed for projects and conversions.
